Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that navigating our platform and services may raise questions from time to time, and that’s why we’ve compiled this comprehensive section to help you get the answers you seek.

Yes. At the Holistic Health Collective, there is a consultation fee associated with our services. As a completely private clinic, HHC provides independent health care that is not reliant on government or pharmaceutical funding, which is why there is an associated cost. Your health and well-being are our top priorities, and we strive to make our services as accessible as possible.

Patients need to check with their insurance provider, as coverage varies. We provide receipts for our services but do not directly bill insurance providers.

We offer both in-person* and telehealth appointments (*limited locations).

With in-person appointments, you can get most of the same things done at HHC that you would get at a regular GPs office. We can order blood tests and x-rays then review the results with you. We can prescribe supplements or pharmaceuticals if that is required. We can also provide skin checks, blood pressure checks, or smears.

With telehealth appointments, we can help with most things that do not require seeing a patient in-person. Prescription refills, lifestyle changes, mental-wellness, and more. If you are unsure if telehealth would meet your needs, we encourage you contact us. One of our dedicated team members will answer your question, typically within 2 business days.

We are highly connected to the system and can access all the pathways available so that you get the answers and treatment you need. Depending on your situation, there are different pathways available:

Public Referrals: If you prefer to utilise the public healthcare system, we can facilitate referrals to specialists through public hospitals or clinics. This may involve specialist tests, x-rays, or hospital admissions. Wait times for care in the public system may be longer due to high demand and we do not have control around who gets seen and who does not. For urgent care, you would be referred to a public hospital.

Private Referrals: Alternatively, if you prefer expedited access or have specific preferences for specialists, we can assist with private referrals. This allows you to access specialists outside of the public system, often resulting in shorter wait times. Private referrals may involve out-of-pocket costs, so it’s essential to consider your options carefully.

We have connections with healthcare providers who specialise in addressing covid-related issues, including cardiologists, urologists, gynaecologists, and other specialists as needed.

However, due to increasing demands on the health care system in NZ, we cannot guarantee your referral will be accepted. We can give you a better idea of the fluidity of the situation during your consultation.

Integrative and functional medicine focuses on holistic, patient-centred care. There is an emphasis on identifying inflammation and getting to the root causes of health issues. Treatment strategies are individualised, and take the whole of a person’s life situation into account. Pharmaceuticals may be required, but at HHC we prioritise natural, non-toxic solutions on a case-by-case basis. Our doctors and nurse practitioners are trained in conventional medicine and have also undertaken extensive training in integrative and functional practices so that they can help you achieve exceptional results with less toxic load than conventional medicine alone cannot.

We recognise that you are more than a set of symptoms. That’s why at your first appointment we take a very thorough history which includes previous illness or procedures, lifestyle, environmental considerations, mental wellness, and stress levels that could potentially be contributing factors to dis-ease. This first appointment can take up to an hour.

Talking through what is going on in your life can be the first step to healing. We then work from a place of knowing who you are and what is not in balance. We take the time to educate you on why your symptoms are occurring and talk through various therapeutic solutions. You will leave with a treatment plan that heals instead of masking symptoms. As a small practice, you get to see the same doctor at each visit and yet receive the benefit of a collective of doctors across differing specialties who consult each week on cases brought to the practice. That’s why you can expect insightful, integrative treatment that is never rushed.

Yes, we accept patients who do not have a regular GP. However, as we are not always able to offer full GP services (for instance, in areas where we can only do telehealth consultations), nor do we provide “after-hours” care, we do encourage our patients to remain enrolled with their usual GP, even if they see us for most of their medical care.

We regard Doctor-Patient privilege as sacrosanct. We won’t tell them if you don’t want us to, but we encourage communication. If our doctors are prescribing pharmaceuticals, we recommend letting your doctor(s) know, however, you have the final say.

Compared to waiting 4-6 weeks to see a regular GP, we can usually see you within days.

We would be happy to! Our practitioners can help with prescription refills where appropriate. If you need a new prescription that you haven’t had from us before, it will require a consultation first.

You may be interested to know that options outside of pharmacology are often possible. We would be happy to discuss that with you. You deserve to know what treatment strategies are available, and we honour whatever choice you make.

Booking your consultation at HHC is a simple process:

  1. If this is your first time with HHC, you need to register with us first.
  2. Once we have received your registration, you will be contacted by our practice manager, Sacha, to complete your set-up in our system.
  3. Once set up, you can book your consultation using the ManageMyHealth™ patient portal by choosing from the times available with your preferred practitioner.
  4. You will receive a text (SMS) reminder 24 hours before your appointment time.
  5. If your consultation is by telehealth, we will email you a Zoom link to your online video conference appointment. If your appointment is by telephone, we will ring you at the designated time. If your appointment is in-person, we’ll email the address so you can just walk up.

We reserve the right to charge a 50% no-show fee for missed appointments.

You can also book an appointment by contacting the clinic directly Monday to Friday, 9am – 3pm at 03 744 1272 or Contact Us.

Your telehealth consultation is ideally done by video conference but we can call you if you prefer.

With the expanded time we have together as compared to the rushed feeling you get while at a regular GP, we can discuss all the aspects of your situation, including ways to improve health and longevity that are particular to you. For example, that may include simple steps to reduce blood pressure, decrease weight, or help you quit smoking. As integrative doctors, we recognise that chronic disease is mostly imbalanced inflammation, so our first approach is to identify where that inflammation originates. We have training that gets to the root problem instead of elsastoplasting a symptom with a pharmaceutical.

Often, you don’t. And we hope you aren’t. We’ve seen that simple tests can detect clotting abnormalities which may indicate a vaccine injury. As simple as these test are, many GPs do not request them. However, tests like these can alert one to take therapeutic action and provide a baseline from which to chart healing progress.

Yes, we can help patients fill out forms and access Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) or Work and Income New Zealand (WINZ). If the ACC claim is accepted, a small portion of your consultation fee will be refunded.

We realise that covid mandates have added financial strains to many households. For patients that are in dire need of financial assistance, there is a small Vaccine Injury Sponsorship Fund from which to draw, courtesy of fundraising efforts done by our sister organisation NZDSOS. You may qualify to have a portion of your doctor’s visit or supplements covered. Please contact us for more information.

What you may not realise about a regular GP:

The ordinary GP Practice is financially rewarded for the number of people they enrol in their practice and for whom disease screening and vaccination is undertaken. This results in more people with “diagnoses” and more people dependent on the medical and pharmaceutical industries. It is not financially rewarding for a practice when patients get better and a diagnosis is removed.

HHC is not subject to the same incentives and pressures that funded GPs are. Our aim is to return people to a healthy state of well-being and discharge their diagnosis. In our patient population, we have seen the reversal of Type 2 diabetes and other diagnoses using holistic practices that were once thought to need life-long prescriptive solutions. Nothing makes us happier than discharging a patient’s diagnosis once they’ve healed. That’s true health care.

Still can’t find the answer you’re looking for? Submit your question here and our dedicated health care team will get back to you usually within two working days.

Please note we cannot answer individual medical questions here as these require an in-depth consultation. If this is an emergency, please ring 111.
